Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior commonly known as just Neymar or Neymar Jr. plays and captains the Brazilian national team and also plays for Spanish club FC Barcelona as a forward or winger. He is widely regarded by many in the sports as one of the best young soccer players because of his amazing dribbling skills, acceleration, finishing and ball controlling ability with both of his feet. He is also compared by many fans, media and former players with former Brazilian forward Pelé because of his aggressive playing style and ball control. Neymar was once stated as “an excellent player” by Brazilian legend Pelé. Many other soccer legends of Brazil such as Ronaldinho once stated that “he will be the best in the world”.
On 5th February 1992, Neymar Jr. was born in Mogi das Cruzes, São Paulo. He was raised by his parents Neymar da Silva, Sr. and Neymar’s mother Nadine Santos. Neymar Jr. inherited his name from Neymar Sr., his father, who is also a former footballer and eventually became his son’s mentor and advisor as Neymar’s talents began to grow. While talking about his father Neymar Jr. once stated, “My father has been by my side since I was little. He takes care of things, my finances and my family.” He loved playing futsal during his childhood days and then combined his love of futsal with street football while growing up. In 2003, Neymar moved to São Vicente with his family and started playing for youth side of Portuguesa Santista.
Neymar’s family moved to Santos where he joined the famous Brazilian club Santos FC in 2003. After he starts having a decent income followed by his success as a young player, Neymar’s family bought a house next to the Vila Belmiro. Neymar starts to earn 10,000 reais per month at the age of 15 and by 16, he started to earn 125,000 reais per month. He also mentioned that he will join Barcelona after playing in the 2013 Confederations Cup. Neymar was signed an undisclosed amount deal of five-year with the team. Neymar was unveiled by Barcelona after he passes medical tests on 3 June 2013. He signed a contract which would keep him till June 2018 with the Spanish team. Neymar made his first appearance at Camp Nou in front of 56,500 fans. Eventually Josep Maria Bartomeu, vice-president of the club, declared that his transfer fee was €87.2 million and his release clause was set at €190 million.

Neymar is a true follower of Christianity, who believes, “Life only makes sense when our highest ideal is to serve Christ!” He is known for tithing to the church an amount equal to 10% of his income. Neymar admittedly considers Kaká, the Brazilian soccer legend is his religious role model. 19 year old Neymar, in August 2011, became a father to a beautiful boy, David Lucca, was born in São Paulo, with Carolina Dantas as the mother, though Neymar is not in a relationship with her. He said about his son, “I cried when I learned that I would be his father. At first, I felt fear. Then joy. It is a new responsibility and I am now enjoying it,” and described his boy as a “2.8 kilograms of pure happiness”.
In 2014, Neymar was seen in a Beats advert, alongside other international footballers like Luis Suárez and Thierry Henry. Based on the theme, ‘The Game Before The Game,’ the ad depicts the pre-game ritual of listening to music, followed by the players. In March 2011, Neymar signed contract of 11 years with Nike, the American sportswear company. During the same month and year, he also entered a 2 year contract with Panasonic, sealing a deal worth US $2.4 million. Volkswagen, Tenys Pé Baruel, Lupo, Ambev, Claro, Unilever and Santander have signed Neymarin sponsorship deals, for which he is making about €20 million per year from his sponsorship deals.
