In 1998, after West Delhi Cricket Academy was established, Virat Kohli was part of its first intake. During the 2002–03 Polly Umrigar Trophy, he first appeared for Delhi Under-15 team in October 2002. He achieved an average of 34.40 while scoring a total of 172 runs on that occasion. Kohli was chosen to be the captain of the Delhi states team during 2003–04 Polly Umrigar Trophy. He achieved an average of 78 while scoring 390 runs in 5 innings on that occasion.
